K. R. Goswami

Each question prepared here was double checked as the person I’m going to ask those questions was an Ex-IAF. What to say, I simply can’t give a single title to this very respected person. Apart from working in the armed force, he had worked as Branch Manager in State Bank of India and as a joint custodian of Reserve Bank of India. While working there he had managed to provide skills to students in spare time with morning and evening classes by teaching them MS office, C++, visual FoxPro, visual basics and website designing. And after retirement he started focusing on writing books under the niches like banking, meditation, motivation, music and varied topics on personality traits and attitudinal effects on behavior exploring human psychology. Besides all, he has a hobby of vocal and instrument playing like harmonium, guitar, flute, mouth organ and violin. The whole title mentioned here is about Mr. K.R. Goswami. Here are the few questions asked by me and his answers for that.

Will you please explain about the position you got placed and the retirement position in IAF and the journey there.

I joined as Aircraftsman in 1978 in the technical trade of Engine Fitter of various aircrafts including fighters and helicopters. And raised to a rank of Sergeant i.e. Senior Non Commissioned Officer.

What was the driving force for you to follow your passion?

Patriotism and desire to learn English and keep myself physically fit and mentally tough.

Knowing it is tough to be an IAF officer, what was the inspiration for you to join the force?

Activities of commandos, stories of Param Vir Chakra awardees, and valor of fighter pilots inspired me to join force.

Out of all the states in India you have visited, which is your personal favorite and why?

I stayed in Tamilnadu, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal and J&K, It was most exciting and mind blowing experience in Leh and Ladakh.

How do you spend your retirement period now?

Writing books on self development. I am shortly establishing an online academy for young students to train them with psychological techniques to induce them in shoot, dive and fly categories in the Armed Forces. After the training they will be Commandos, sailors, engineers and flying pilots.

The movie “Gunjan Saxena” showcased the difficulties women had faced to be an IAF officer. What do you say about it? Have things changed now?

Reel and Real stories are quite different however I encourage women to join the Armed Forces.

You have served in IAF, worked at a bank as Branch Manager, and it is even mentioned you are a psychologist and author. Which title would suit you the best and why according to you?

I was declared best branch manager of State Bank of India in 2015 but it was the soldier in me that kept me disciplined during all walks of life. With psychological techniques I want to change the lives of people in India and abroad through my writings, podcasts and YouTube videos.

Please mention your favorite book and the reason for it.

“5 AM Club” of Robin Sharma, that made me rise at 5 am daily and start my day.

Do you have any role models in life? Why?

APJ Kalam from whom I learned the formula “Big thinking gives you righteousness of character, righteousness of character gives you beauty of personality, beauty of personality gives you harmony at home, harmony at home gives you order in the nation and order in the nation gives you peace in the world”.

What would you say to anyone who wishes to be themselves in personal and professional life?

Build better version of yourself to be better human.

A word of advice to the aspiring youngsters who wish to join IAF.

Explore your ideal version and come forward to serve the nation.
